The plane trees and figs round here drop heavily into small backyard pools. A lot of the pools are old enough that the equipment is well past its service life — we replace a lot of pumps here.

Older concrete and fibreglass pools in small yards, often behind a terrace with no vehicle access.

Most pools don't go wrong all at once. They drift — a bit out of balance, a bit more each week — until one hot fortnight turns it green.

Pool & tile cleaning
That grey-brown band around the waterline is calcium and body oils. It hardens over time, and the longer it sits the harder it is to take off without damaging the tile.

Leave a pool a fortnight in a Sydney summer and it goes green. Tipping in more chlorine rarely fixes it, because the water is usually too far out of balance for chlorine to do anything.
