Summers run hotter out here than at the coast, and most pools sit in full sun. Heat plus UV burns chlorine off fast, so pools that were fine in October are struggling by January without more frequent servicing.

Shop strip-tests miss the things that actually matter. A pool can read fine for chlorine and still be impossible to keep clear because the stabiliser or alkalinity is wrong.

Leave a pool a fortnight in a Sydney summer and it goes green. Tipping in more chlorine rarely fixes it, because the water is usually too far out of balance for chlorine to do anything.
